What’s project RELI?

Project RELI is a study being carried out at the Autonomous University of Zacatecas “Francisco García Salinas” (UAZ) from January 2021 to December 2022. The aim of this research is to discover the languages and language varieties used by students at the UAZ in their everyday lives both in and outside the academic context. Project RELI seeks to gain a better understanding of the linguistic landscape in our institution resulting from the unique linguistic repertoires of students. In turn, we’ll be better informed of the discursive dynamics taking place in our academic context and in the state of Zacatecas. Gathering this information is highly relevant because by tracking the daily discussive dynamics we can contribute to the visibilization and recognition of youths’ identities, which manifest in speech. The data obtained in this study will also allow us to propose activities and strategies focused on promoting, strengthening, and protecting the student-linguistic repertoires to create an inclusive academic and social environment that respect all identity manifestations.
